My Story
My path to healing and wholeness has been a rocky one, it's taken some twists and turns, just like everyone else's. Through it though, I have learned who I am, what I want and how I thrive in the world. And now, I want to share my experience, my learnings and my passion with you- to help you also achieve the freedom and peace that comes with feeling whole and being confident in who you are.
I grew up learning mental illness in intimate ways, as it shaped my personal life and that of many family members. I felt burdened and tormented by this, often both at the same time. Wanting to understand and support the people that I loved and desperately wanting a break from the pain and suffering. Feeling powerless, stressed and consumed with guilt for not being able to "fix" everything. This was definitely not a recipe for health and happiness!
Over the course of those difficult decades, I found people that love me, unconditionally, people that support me, value me and rally around me in the hard times and celebrate with me in the good times. And I found empathy, compassion, understanding and non-judgement. This is how I want to hold you and help you through your trying times and life transitions; helping you to move through the obstacles that feel too big to carry on your own. To be a guide and a witness on your journey back to yourself.
As a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), I have over 18 years of professional experience working with people of all ages and backgrounds from childhood to teens and throughout adulthood. I have had the opportunity to work in residential settings as well as inpatient and outpatient programs. I have supported people with active addictions, childhood & adult traumas, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. I have worked with families, couples, groups and individuals.
In session, I rely heavily on person-centered and strength-based techniques, to support and guide you on your healing journey. I am in training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and love including this in sessions. Helping you to develop more ease and comfort in your body is where healing really takes off! I also utilize cognitive behavioral (CBT), solution focused, problem solving, acceptance & commitment (ACT) and interpersonal therapy techniques to guide my practice.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Beloit College, where I designed their first major in Gender Studies and I hold a Masters of Science in Social Work degree from the Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville. I am actively licensed as a clinical social worker in both Kentucky and Indiana.
